I am a veteran Excel for Windows user (20 years) and just recently started using Excel 2016 for Mac. Our company uses Excel templates that are sometimes shared between the Windows and Mac platforms. Unlike in Excel for Windows, where one can specify the number of characters for column widths, Excel 2016 for Mac shows inches.
Instead, I want to have the Company names display vertically in Column A and the Data Attributes display horizontally in Row 1. This would make it easier for me to do comparisons and analysis. For example, I can’t easily filter the spreadsheet for vendors in CA. How to Transpose Columns & Rows in Excel, Open the spreadsheet you need to change.
This is a big problem. How can I change the column width measurements in Excel 2016 for Mac from inches back to characters (or is it points?), just like in all versions of Excel Windows? The Excel Preferences doesn't seem to show any option, unlike in Excel for Windows. Note: I am only using Normal view in Excel. My printer drivers are the latest version. I have all the latest updates for Office 2016.

I encourage all other users reading this post with the same problem to voice their request to bring back the use of 'points' for column widths. The link is given below. In addition, from within Excel, click on the smiley icon in the ribbon and post a message directly to Microsoft. The more users complain, Microsoft will have to do something.
